General Technical/Home cordless questions

Q1. What is the status of Ericsson DECT Home Cordless 230 & 260?

A. Ericsson decided to discontinue the DECT business in 2000.

Q2. What is the difference between DECT and Analogue?

A. DECT offers maximum security against eavesdropping and through the digital technology it offers excellent sound quality, which means no noise and no interference. Analogue phones cannot secure this protection and cannot offer pure digital sound quality.

Q3. What is DECT and what are the benefits of it?

A. The abbreviation DECT stands for Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications. DECT is an international flexible digital radio access standard for cordless telephony providing excellent sound-quality and maximum security. DECT is based on a multi-carrier TDMA (time division multiple access) technology. This is the same technology used in the main digital cellular standards. DECT operates on the 1880-1900 MHz frequency band.

Q4. Can somebody eavesdrop on me while I'm in a telephone conversation?

A. No, this is not possible because of the digital techniques and the encryption that is used.

Q5. Can someone else with another handset 'break in' on my base station and have a telephone conversation?

A. Ericsson's Home Cordless is safe against breaking in on line because of the unique handset-base station registration, digital techniques and PIN-code protection. It is important you change the default PIN-codes to a personal PIN-code to prevent misuse.
